Volunteer Position Job Description

Job Title: Driver

Purpose: Neighbor to Neighbor needs your help providing transportation for the disabled, chronically ill, and home-bound. Transportation means independence and freedom, and that is what you will be giving to your riders, supporting the organization’s mission to help seniors stay connected to the community and living independently at home.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide round-trip or one-way transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, or quality of life locations in a safe and lawful manner. This includes the use of seat belts for all passengers.
  • Call passenger the day before a trip to introduce yourself and verify ride information.
  • Be punctual and dependable in picking up clients at the scheduled time.
  • Notify the office after each completed trip.
  • Report any problem stemming from a transportation assignment by calling the N2N office (843) 839-0702
  • Report any health, safety or well-being concerns regarding passengers.
  • Call immediately if unable to keep an assigned ride request.
  • Inform the office of changes in your availability and when you will be out of town.
  • Abide and uphold Neighbor to Neighbor’s Confidentiality agreement.
  • Perform only those transportation requests authorized by the Neighbor to Neighbor office.

Other Specifics:

  • Understand and support Neighbor to Neighbor’s mission and community involvement.
  • Have access to a vehicle that is roadworthy, reliable, and suitable for clients’ needs.
  • Have a valid driver’s license, liability insurance, pass a background check, and have a safe driving record.
  • Understand the limitations experienced by some seniors, such as mobility and hearing/vision loss.
  • Interact with diverse populations.
  • Be patient and courteous under all types of circumstances, and maintain a warm, helpful, and friendly attitude.
  • Balance concern for clients with appropriate boundaries.

Time Commitment: The frequency of rides is up to the driver. We only ask that you complete two rides per month at minimum. Choose how often, when, where, and who you will drive. Appointments are scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Drivers will not be asked to drive on the weekend or state holidays.

Orientation and Training: Training for this position will be provided. You will be given a clear understanding of the procedures and ongoing support. The volunteer coordinator and staff will always be available for questions and assistance.

Congregational Coordinator Job Description

Job Title: Congregational Coordinator

Purpose: To assist the GRACE Ministries Neighbor to Neighbor program in promoting independent living through volunteer transportation by identifying, recommending, educating and appointing various individuals (within your organization) to implement a sustainable recruitment model for the N2N program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with GRACE Ministries Liaison monthly to:
    • Submit N2N information pieces to be placed into internal communication materials (ie: newsletters and bulletins)
    • Discuss upcoming events in your organization/community
    • Identify new internal groups with presentation opportunities
    • Update contact information for changes in staff and administration
    • Inform N2N about relevant upcoming internal administrative meetings
  • Identify and Appoint Volunteer Recruiters to “Put a face on GRACE Ministries”
    • Run informational booths as needed
    • Attend internal health fairs on behalf of GRACE Ministries
    • Distribute information and marketing materials internally
    • Help N2N staff identify potential internal orientation locations
  • Identify and Recommend Volunteer Trainers to
    • Become a Certified N2N Trainer
    • Present to internal groups
    • Attend orientations as needed

Qualifications:

  • Understand and support the GRACE Ministries Neighbor to Neighbor program mission.
  • Willing to attend quarterly Ambassador meetings
  • Able to proficiently communicate through email

Time Commitment: Less than 4 hours a month.

Orientation and Training: Training for this position will be provided. You will be given a clear understanding of the procedures and ongoing support. The GRACE Ministries Liaison will always be available for questions and assistance.

Volunteer Office Assistant Job Description

Job Title: Office Assistant

Purpose: Neighbor to Neighbor needs your help in the office to arrange services provided by our volunteers to our clients so they can continue living in their own homes. The Office Assistant serves as the main liaison between clients and volunteers, supporting the Neighbor to Neighbor mission to improve the lives of disabled, chronically ill, and home-bound individuals and enable them to continue living independently.

Location: The Office Assistant works in the Neighbor to Neighbor office located at 921 N. Kings Hwy. Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer the main phone line, make direct calls, and return voicemails.
  • Take client requests for transports.
  • Fill requests by matching clients with volunteer drivers and/or other appropriate referral agencies.
  • Log all incoming and outgoing calls, and make notes in each ride/profile.
  • Understand and be able to answer questions from our FAQ sheet
  • Log new volunteer and client applications.
  • Other administrative duties and special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Understand and support Neighbor to Neighbor’s mission.
  • Have basic computer skills and a desire to learn.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate with office staff.
  • Communicate with diverse populations on the telephone.
  • Be patient and courteous under all types of circumstances, and maintain a warm, helpful and friendly attitude.
  • Balance concern for clients with appropriate boundaries.
  • Work independently and be a team player.
  • Have good organizational skills.
  • Be detail oriented and reliable.

Time Commitment: Four-hour shifts offered between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (with flexible days and times available). Office Assistants are asked to work a minimum of 3 shifts per month.

Orientation and Training: Training for this position will be provided. You will be given a clear understanding of the procedures and receive ongoing training.

Support: The volunteer coordinator and staff will always be available for questions and assistance.
